Every number here
comes from somewhere.
This explorer restructures official Maldives Bureau of Statistics releases, and refreshes itself when the Bureau publishes new ones. Below is the exact release each dataset was read from, along with the caveats that matter when reading them together.
20 releases, last checked 1 Sept 2026
A scheduled job reads each release page daily and rebuilds this site whenever the Bureau publishes a newer file. Everything in this table — the release name, when it was published, what it covers — is written by that job, so it describes the data you are actually looking at.

Six things worth knowing before you quote a figure
Nothing here is estimated
Every figure is read directly from a published MBS workbook. Derived values — shares, year-on-year rates, dependency ratios, natural increase — are computed from those published counts and nothing else. Where a source records no observation, the chart shows a gap rather than an interpolation.
The projection base is not the census count
Census 2022 counted 515,132 residents. The 2022–2062 projection starts from 547,651 for the same year, because MBS adjusts the base for the current foreign population and grows it at a fixed rate. The two figures answer different questions and should not be compared directly.
The crossover year moved
An earlier release of the projection put the year elderly residents outnumber children at 2045. The revised tables published in March 2026 put it at 2047. This explorer uses the revised tables throughout, so both the census pages and the population pages tell the same story.
Two price bases in play
The Consumer Price Index is rebased to 2022 = 100; the Producer Price Index runs from January 2019 = 100. Index levels from the two are not comparable — only their rates of change are.
Constant versus current prices
National accounts appear both at constant 2019 prices, which strip out inflation and are the right basis for growth, and at current prices, which are the right basis for shares of the economy in a given year. Each chart states which it uses.
Two publishers, and who wins
Figures come from the Bureau of Statistics and from the Monetary Authority, which republishes a good deal of Bureau data alongside its own. Where both publish the same indicator, the Indicators page shows the Monetary Authority's reading because it is released earlier in the month; the Bureau remains the primary everywhere else. Each chart names the publisher it drew from.
Monthly indicators are provisional
Maldives in Figures is compiled from administrative returns and is revised in later editions. Figures for the most recent months are the most likely to change.
scripts/refresh_mbs.py runs on a schedule. It reads each release page, compares the newest file listed there against what this site was built from, and only downloads when something has actually changed. New data is extracted into a staging directory and checked for plausibility before it is allowed to replace the live figures, so a change in an MBS sheet layout leaves the site standing on the last good release rather than showing empty charts. The bundle is rebuilt only when the numbers move.
